Art, Math, and the Second Half Slump

The Raptors lost to the Knicks yesterday, 119 to 92. It was a collapse that happened in the second half, which is usually when the pizza you ordered shows up and you realize you aren't actually that hungry.

We are forty nine games into the season now. Someone is drawing a sketch after every game, which is a lot of sketches. I wonder if they ever run out of ink, or if they just use the tears of the fan base to dilute the paint.

The Race for Five

There is a conversation happening about who will get a 5x5 first, Scottie Barnes or Colin Boyles. A 5x5 is when you get at least five of everything: points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. It is very rare, like finding a parking spot on Danforth during a long weekend.

Colin flirted with it last night, but he could not find the steals. Stealing is hard when you were raised to be a polite person. Scottie fills every stat too, but sometimes it feels like he is trying to fill a bucket that has a very small hole in the bottom.

Deadlines and Logistics

People are talking about the trade deadline. Some say we need shooting, others say we need a big man. It is never that simple, according to the internet.

My uncle says we should trade for someone who can just make a layup when the lights are bright. I told him everyone is trying to do that. He just looked at his coffee and sighed, which is how I feel watching the third quarter.

Quiet Observations

A guy is mentioning the Raptors a lot on the timeline lately. People are asking if he is legit. In this economy, who is truly legit? We are all just people with keyboards and opinions about rotations.

We play the Magic next in Orlando. It is a place with a lot of humidity and a mouse that owns everything. Maybe the change of scenery will help, or maybe we will just see more of those sketches. It is good to have art, I suppose.
