Forty Points and a Very Heavy Chain

Immanuel Quickley scored 40 points against the Golden State Warriors last night. That is a lot of points for one person to score in a single evening, especially when you consider that most people just spend their Tuesday nights looking at professional lawn care videos or eating a bowl of cereal over the sink.

The Warriors seemed surprised by this development, which is understandable. It is difficult to prepare for someone who decides to put a ball in a hoop that many times. My uncle used to say that if you do something forty times, you are either an expert or you have a problem, and Quickley looked like a bit of both out there.

The Chain and the Math

After the game, the team gave Quickley the win chain. It is a large piece of jewelry that signifies someone did a good job at basketball. It looks heavy, but when you score 40 points, your neck is probably strong enough to support the weight of a small anchor (or at least a very large medallion).

There was also a sequence where the team made eight passes in eight seconds. This resulted in an open three pointer for Brandon Ingram. If you do the math, that is one pass per second, which feels frantic. I once tried to pass a remote control to my brother that quickly and we ended up breaking a lamp.

Scottie and the Ease of It All

Scottie Barnes also made some plays that looked far too easy. He has a way of moving across the court that makes professional athletes look like they are standing in a very slow moving line at the post office. It must be nice to find things that easy; I still struggle with the self checkout at the grocery store if the produce doesn't have a sticker.

The fans are very excited about all of this. There are memes being shared on the internet involving the Warriors losing, which is what happens when a team from California comes to Canada and forgets that we have Quickley. We are all just spinning through space, but some of us are doing it while scoring 40 points in a professional basketball game.

It was a good win. I suppose we will see if they can do it again, or if we will go back to the usual state of mild concern. Either way, the chain has been awarded, and the points have been counted. That is more than most of us can say for our Tuesday.
