The Ball Defied Gravity and We Got Pizza Anyway

The Raptors beat the Bulls 110 to 101 on Thursday night. It was a game that happened in a city, and people watched it, and then it finished. Now there is a different day happening.

Jakob Poeltl played sixteen minutes and did not record a single rebound. It is difficult to exist for sixteen minutes near a basketball hoop and not have the ball fall into your hands at least once by accident. The last time this occurred (February 29, 2020) it was a leap year. This suggests that Jakob perhaps only avoids rebounds during astronomical anomalies, or maybe he was just thinking about something else.

The Youth are Doing Things

Ja'Kobe Walter seems to have taken the backup minutes that used to belong to other people. Some people are saying Ochai Agbaji is gone, though I suspect he is just in a different part of the building or perhaps at a grocery store. Gradey Dick is having a difficult time, which is part of being young, like having bad skin or not knowing how to file taxes.

Ja'Kobe was described as awesome, which is a big word. My uncle once described a specific brand of shop vac as awesome, and it did suck up a lot of sawdust. If Ja'Kobe can do the basketball equivalent of that, the Raptors might have something.

The Box Score is a Liar

Statistics are just numbers we use to feel like we understand why things happened. Someone noted that a player had a better Box Plus Minus than Poodles (Jakob), which is a strange nickname because poodles require a lot of grooming. Jakob seems like he uses a three-in-one shampoo and calls it a day.

Thoughts on Sustenance

There is a search for a QR code that grants a free slice of pizza. There is something poetic about winning a professional basketball game so that strangers can eat a triangle of dough and cheese in a parking lot. It makes the zero rebounds feel more purposeful.

We all want the pizza. We all want the rebounds. Sometimes we get the pizza but the rebounds stayed in the air. That is just how the rotation of the Earth works. I think I will go lie down now.
