The Raptors beat the Utah Jazz tonight. The final score was 143 to 127, which is a lot of points for a game that took place on a Monday in March.
It felt like a fever dream or one of those commercials where things just happen without explanation. We needed this win, apparently, though the concept of needing things in mid March is always a bit fluid.
The Jamal Shead Experience
Jamal Shead finished the game with 15 assists, which is a career high for him. It is also more assists than some of my relatives have provided in their entire lives.
He capped it off with a bank shot from nearly half court as the shot clock expired. He did not mean to bank it in, but the ball did not care about his intentions.
The ball just wanted to go home, much like most people watching a game between Toronto and Utah. Shead looks like he is playing at 1.5x speed while everyone else is wondering if they left the stove on.
A Sequence of Events
Scottie Barnes hit a step back three at the buzzer to end the first half. It was smooth, unlike my attempts to use a self checkout machine at the grocery store.
Jakobe Walter had a sequence where the ball seemed to be attached to him by magnets. This is not scientifically possible, yet I have seen stranger things at the Scarborough Town Centre.
Chomche had five blocks in only seventeen minutes of action. If he keeps this up, people might actually learn how to pronounce his name correctly.
The Standings and Other Mysteries
Markelle Fultz is wearing a Raptors uniform now. I remember when he was a first overall pick, and now he is here, helping us secure tie breakers against the Atlanta Hawks.
The Jazz tried very hard to come back once we pulled the starters, but it was not enough. They ended up losing by sixteen points, which is a significant number if you are counting eggs or years of regret.
We have the tie breaker against the Hawks now. This matters because it means we might play one extra game in April, also known as the month when it still snows for no reason.
I am not sure what to make of this team, but watching a basketball go through a hoop 143 times is a decent way to spend a few hours. My uncle says we should have played like this in November, but he also says the moon is moving closer to his house.
