There is a report from Shams Charania that the Raptors are looking into Domantas Sabonis. He is a very good rebounder and he passes the ball like a point guard, which is a stressful way to live life as a center. I remember his father, Arvydas, who played for Portland and always looked like he had just finished building a shed.
The idea, apparently, is to trade RJ Barrett to Sacramento to make the math work. Michael Scotto says RJ would fit well on the Kings next to Keegan Murray and DeAndre Hunter. It feels strange to imagine RJ in California, far away from the Mississauga transit system and the specific type of humidity we have here.
The Question of Getting Better
A new fan asked on the internet how close we are to being a championship team. It is a bold question to ask on a Monday. I think about my laundry, which I started three days ago, and realize that completion is a relative term.
Being a contender requires many things to go right at the exact same time. You need health, you need talent, and you need a little bit of luck from the universe. Right now, we mostly have a lot of jersey designs and a collective hope that Scottie Barnes becomes everything we talk about in our sleep.
Other People Thinking Things
Draymond Green is currently shocked that Brandon Ingram was not selected as an all star. Draymond gets shocked by things often, which must be exhausting for his nervous system. Ingram is very tall and very skinny, like a ladder that can shoot mid range jumpers.
I saw a post elsewhere about Joe Carter getting a statue and someone suggesting the Raptors need to do something similar at the arena. We probably should. Maybe a statue of Kyle Lowry taking a charge, or Amir Johnson just being generally helpful.
Moving Pieces
The trade deadline is a time where everyone pretends to be a CPA. People talk about cap holds and trade exceptions like they are ingredients in a family soup recipe. If Sabonis comes here, the paint will be very crowded, like a grocery store right before a snowstorm.
It is hard to know if this actually makes us better or if we are just moving the furniture around. My uncle used to move his couch every six months because he said it changed the energy of the room. He still had the same couch, though. It was orange and smelled like old pennies.
